Just a quick thank you to Dawn at Novellas in New Paltz for allowing us to provide dessert to everyone at the Wedding Vendors of the Hudson valley meeting on Tuesday evening! Everything was fantastic and the space is beautiful! Be sure to check it out for your upcoming events! In case you're wondering, the Wedding Vendors enjoyed a variety of Cake Devils sweets, including rainbow cookies, snickerdoodle cookies, soft molasses cookies, white chocolate & cranberry cookies during the event. They were also all given a cupcake in a box (some chocolate cake, some spiced Guinness cake) to take home... however, big surprise, none of them made it out the door! ;)

The Story Behind this Baby Animal and Baby Blocks |
|
The FlavorThe flavor of the cake, Blissful Blueberry, was the idea of the mother-in-law. She thought it would be a great idea to have the cake be blue inside for a baby boy! She had no worries about picking an uncommon flavor, as she knew from experience how delicious it is! This seems to be the popular opinion of any of the berry flavor cakes. Even Cake Devil Erica... who does not like blueberries, loves when I make blueberry cake! Here's a little confession... I did add some food coloring to the cake batter. When I reduce blueberries, I'm never quite sure what color it is going to turn the cake because it all depends on the blueberries. Sometimes it's a dark pink, sometimes it's purple and on a rare occasion, it's actually blue. This was not one of those rare occasions. If you look at the picture of the cut cake, the filling was the natural occurring color. The blue cake, blue icing and green icing are all results of a little bit of coloring. |
The DesignThe mom to be was poking around our website and was fond of the cake pictured on the right with the bear and the duck. She really loved the little animals on top and wanted something similar. She also really wanted some baby blocks on the cake. So, being a cake designer, I was quickly inspired and asked her if she would like a lion, a tiger, a elephant and a giraffe with some baby blocks and suggested using light blue, light green, brown and yellow. She said yes, thought it sounded great! I went back and filled in her mother-in-law and the design was set! We were al excited for this cake! :) |
Who Knew? This cake was adorable! Everyone raved about it. But who knew what it would start?? Since the day I published photos of this cake on our website and our social media accounts, we have had so many inquires from people wanting this cake and/or some version of this cake. This, by far, has been our most requested design theme recently. We have already done and posted a few cakes that were inspired by this one! Being a custom cakery and cake artists, we always try to keep our cakes unique and customized to each individual. Cake Devil Erica and I are still amazed and how many ways we can make a fondant elephant! Who knew? :) |
The Story Behind The Daisy Wedding Cake
This beautiful wedding cake was created for a wonderful couple that got married at Harriman State Park this summer. The couple was from Long Island, however, the bride spent much time camping at this campsite with her family and thought it would be wonderful to have her wedding there.
When this bride contacted us, she asked us for a small 2 tier cake and a sheet cake to compensate for the rest of the servings. She sent us a couple of pictures of cakes that inspired her. We knew right away that she wanted a little bit of yellow flowers and a textured cake with an outdoor feel. We asked her for her budget and it made it easy for us to work up designs for her knowing what would fit into her budget. We told her that we could create a beautiful 3 tier cake for her... would she prefer this? This bride was ecstatic! She did not think that a 3 tier cake would fit into her budget. We asked some more questions and then provided her with this design idea and a quote. The bride was happy and the cake was booked! :)
All 3 tiers of this cake were a delicious Red Velvet Cake with a raspberry filling and a smooth vanilla buttercream icing.
This 3 tier daisy wedding cake was delivered to Harriman Sate Park in Harriman, NY. We weren't sure what to expect as this was a unique wedding location. When we pulled up, we were amazed! The site was BEAUTIFUL! They had tents and a pavilion all set up and decorated. The couple had photos of their relationship and themselves displayed beautifully. When we arrived, the caterer was there along with the groom and the groomsmen. They all looked fantastic. The groom was anxious.. as expected! We set up the cake and were extremely impressed with this couple. They thought of everything... even how to keep the bugs off of the cake for this outdoor wedding.
A little canopy netting went a long way and it looked so pretty!!
Take note for future outdoor weddings... this was a great idea!
Below is a clip of the email that we received from the bride after the wedding:
Dear Stacy and Erica,
Thank you for everything. Hope you found the location easily enough, I know it is a bit tricky! The cake was absolutely beautiful and delicious! The decorations were perfect and just how I imagined it. I will spread the word about your amazing, professional business and how you made my wedding day so special. Thanks again!
From the bottom of our Little Cake Devil hearts, Thank you for your order!
Sweet Regards,
Stacy & Erica
The Story Behind the Cake...
Do you ever wonder what's behind each cake we post? What flavor was the cake? Where did the cake go? Who purchased the cake? What event was it for?
Well, your questions are about to be answered. I find that I don't really keep up with our blog, often because I just don't know what to blog about. How much do you really want read about us creating these cakes? I could tell you step by step, today we made 12 pounds of chocolate buttercream, next we are making 24 red sugar roses... but I would bore you. I could tell you stories about things that crack us up while we're in the kitchen, but I think a lot of it is just funny in the moment. Maybe because we're tired, but sometimes we find ourselves laughing over everything and doing silly things. I don't know that it would make great reading material either. So, alas, I came up with an idea this morning. I am going to tell you the story of some of our cakes!
Each cake has so much meaning to us. Each cake connects to a person and a special day in their lives. It's amazing to be a part of so many special events and it's incredible how each cake stays with me. You can pick out any cake on our website and we can tell you who that cake was for and what the event was. We're even pretty good at remember the flavors of cakes somehow.
So, in this series, I will share with you the story of the customer (keeping them anonymous), where the cake was delivered, the flavor of the cake and any feedback received.
The majority of our cakes are Wedding cakes, Baby shower cakes, Bridal shower cakes, Birthday cakes, Sweet 16 cakes, 1st birthday cakes, Graduation cakes, Retirement cakes... and more.
The majority of our deliveries go to The Lower Hudson Valley and Northern New Jersey. Including Rockland County, Orange County, Westchester County, Dutchess County, Bergen County and Passaic County, though we do go to other areas as well.
